2018 Budget Telephone Town Hall

2018 Budget Telephone Town Hall

Our Director of Transit and City Staff have
presented council with some very sobering information about the fact that we have been
under investing in our transit service. So we know that we can improve on time percentages
by investing more dollars and we are already going to be addressing some of that right
now. [email protected] with specifics of this
and I will forward this to the Commissioner of Public Works for the Region of Halton so
that we can get some sort of answer about whether we can in fact accept your suggestion
or for some reason we can’t. You do deserve an answer and I will endeavor
to get you that. You mention something important here and that’s
during the peak period, certainly in the afternoon peak period in particular. I know just today driving from Appelby Line
on New Street to City Hall, it was fairly congested. Lots of evidence suggests that if you do widen
roads to handle more capacity it simply gets filled. You still have congestion and so you haven’t
really achieved anything. The whole issue of bike lanes, the specific
pilot project of bike lanes on New St. between Guelph Line and Walkers Line, has been very
contentious. There is no consensus views on council about
what we should be doing. Questions including those that weren’t addressed
in this discussion as well as full audio recording will be posted on line at Burlington.ca/budget
in the next couple of days.
