Anna Kendrick Geeks Out And Sings With Stephen

MY FIRST GUEST TONIGHT IS AN
OSCAR-NOMINATED ACTRESS WHO HAS APPEARED IN “UP IN THE AIR,”
“INTO THE WOODS” AND THE “PITCH PERFECT” MOVIES. PLEASE WELCOME ANNA KENDRICK. ( BAND PLAYING )
( CHEERS AND APPLAUSE )>>Stephen: NICE TO HAVE YOU
HERE.>>I’M SO HAPPY TO BE HERE.>>Stephen: I’M A BIG FAN. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I’M GLAD I GOT TO COME ON THE
SHOW. I DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO
PROMOTE, LIKE I’M NOT HERE TO PIVOT THE MOVIE. IT’S FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK ME
WHERE I GREW UP. LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT. I HAVE NO AGENDA.>>Stephen: I HAVE NO AGENDA. I’M HERE TO ENJOY ANNA KENDRICK.>>NICE PERSON.>>Stephen: YEAH, YEAH. (LAUGHTER)
Y>>Stephen: I LEARNED THROUGH AN INTERMEDIARY YOU ARE ALSO A
BIG FAN OF LORD OF THE RINGS>>I AM. LORD OF THE RINGS WAS MY GATEWAY
IN HIGH SCHOOL –>>Stephen: YOUR GATEWAY DRUG? YES
>>Stephen: KIDS, NOT EVEN ONCE. NOT EVEN ONCE.>>YEAH, MY BEST FRIEND AND I
DIDN’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT UNTIL WE STARTED WATCHING THE MOVIES
AND BEFORE LONG WE WERE DOING ANNUAL MARATHONS OF THE THREE
EXTENDED EDITIONS>>Stephen: I HEARD YOU HAVE
PARTIES>>YEAH
>>Stephen: I’VE NEVER BEEN INVITED TO ONE OF YOUR PARTIES.>>IT’S VERY EXCLUSIVE, JUST ME
AND MY BEST FRIEND. LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE WANT TO
COME, BUT WE THOUGHT WE SHOULD KEEP IT REALLY EXCLUSIVE.>>Stephen: DO YOU HAVE A
CHARACTER IN LORD OF THE RINGS THAT YOU IDENTIFY WITH OR YOU
WOULD LIKE TO BE?>>MY BEST FRIEND AND I WOULD
LIKE TO BE FRODO AND SAM BUT WE’RE ACTUALLY THE LAZY HUNGRY
ONES SO WE’RE PARTNERS PIP AND
MARY>>Stephen: WHICH IS WHICH? THEY’RE DISTINCT
>>I’M PIPPEN>>Stephen: PIPPEN DOESN’T DO
ANYTHING>>HE HAS THE SONG
>>Stephen: OH, YEAH. YOU ARE THE SINGER
>>WE DECIDED THIS BEFORE THE THIRD MOVIE CAME OUT AND THEN
THE THIRD MOVIE CAME OUT AND I WAS, LIKE, THIS IS MY MOMENT AND
IT WASN’T ME, IT WAS BILLY, BUT FOR ME IT WAS MY MOMENT
>>Stephen: SAM IS THE REAL HERO OF THE MOVIES
>>YEAH. BUT WE’RE NOT REALLY HEROS
>>Stephen: PEOPLE LIKE US HAVE TO SETTLE
>>OKAY>>Stephen: I’LL SETTLE FOR
EROGORN>>OH
>>Stephen: YOU DO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL VOICE. EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU FROM THE
“PITCH PERFECT” MOVIES. “PITCH PERFECT” IS THE MOST
SUCCESSFUL MUSICAL OF ALL TIME>>I KNOW. IT’S CRAZY. (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
IF WE’RE GOING TO BE PEDANTIC ABOUT IT, IF YOU’RE A THEATER
NERD, IT’S NOT TECHNICALLY A MUSICAL BECAUSE THE CHARACTERS
KNOW THEY’RE SINGING AND THE MUSIC DOESN’T MOVE THE STORY
FORWARD. OKAY.>>Stephen: THAT’S A VERY
INTERESTING DISTINCTION BECAUSE IF THE CHARACTERS KNOW THEY’RE
SINGING –>>THEN THEY’RE JUST CHARACTERS
WHO ARE SINGING. BUT A MUSICAL IS ONE WHICH THE
MUSIC IS INTEGRATED INTO THE PLOT.>>Stephen: OKAY. BUT ALSO I DON’T KNOW WHY I’M
TALKING ANYBODY OUT OF IT.>>Stephen: I LIKE THAT
DISTINCTION.>>YEAH.>>Stephen: HUH… THE MOVIE IS A LOT ABOUT
FRIENDSHIP. DO YOU THINK WOMEN OR GIRLS
APPROACH FRIENDSHIP IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN GUYS DO
BECAUSE YOU GUYS SEEM TO WORK AT IT HARDER THAN WE DO.>>I DON’T, BUT I THINK WOMEN
DO.>>Stephen: REALLY IN YOU GET
TOGETHER WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND WATCH MOVIES FOR 13 HOURS AT A
TIME.>>SHE’S MY BEST FRIEND AND I
SEE HER ONCE A YEAR. MY BROTHER’S IN THE AUDIENCE
TONIGHT AND WHEN PEOPLE ASK IF WE’RE CLOSE, I SAY, YEAH, WE
TALK TWICE A YEAR.>>Stephen: THAT’S VERY GUY. A GUY’S, LIKE, HE’S MY BEST
FRIEND. WHEN DID YOU SEE HIM? TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO. WE’LL GET TOGETHER SOMETIME NEXT
YEAR.>>YEAH.>>Stephen: YEAH. IGNING PROBABLY WOMEN ARE
LIKE THAT. I’M GOING TO TRY TO BE MORE LIKE
THAT. WORK AT IT.>>Stephen: PLEASE DON’T. EFFORT, WOO…>>Stephen: YOU STARTED ON
BROADWAY WHEN YOU WERE 12 YEARS OLD.>>YEAH.>>Stephen: WHAT IS IT LIKE TO
BE ON STAGE ON BROADWAY AT 12 YEARS OLD? AND YOU WERE LIVING IN MAINE,
NOT NEW YORK.>>I’M FROM MAINE, BUT I WAS
LIVING IN YONKERS — (CHEERING)
YES! LOVE IT! ROWDY!>>Stephen: THOSE PEOPLE, THEY
JUST WON A HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR SAYING THAT. (LAUGHTER)
>>SO I LIVED IN NEW YORK WITH MY DAD WHEN I WAS DOING THE SHOW
FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS, AND I WAS AMAZING. IT WAS, LIKE, HARD WORK AND, YOU
KNOW, THEY TREATED YOU LIKE A PROFESSIONAL. NO ONE GAVE YOU A BREAK BECAUSE
YOU WERE A KID. BUT EVERYONE WAS SO WONDERFUL
AND WARM TO ME. I THINK IT FOSTERED MY LOVE FOR
IT.>>Stephen: ONE OF THE OTHER
THINGS YOU AND I HAVE A LITTLE BIT IN COMMON IS WE BOTH, ME
BRIEFLY AND YOU SIGNIFICANTLY, WORKED WITH STEPHEN PE SONHEIM.>>YES. BEFORE I MADE IT INTO THE WOODS,
I FELT LIKE WE HAD A RELATIONSHIP. I DID AN INDEPENDENT FILM WHEN I
WAS 16 WHERE HE HAD A CAMEO AND I SANG ONE OF HIS SONGS IN THE
FILMUM AND THEY SHOWED HIM THAT FOOT AN AND HE SAID SHE HAS
REALLY NICE TEETH, WHICH ISN’T SPECIFICALLY WHAT YOU WANT TO
HEAR FROM HIM, BUY TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.>>Stephen: YOU DO HAVE LOVELY
TEETH.>>THANK YOU. THEN WHEN I WAS 17 I DID A
MUSICAL AT NEW YORK CITY OPERA. THE FIRST DAY, I WAS YOUNGER AND
LESS EXPERIENCED THAN THE REST OF THE CAST AND I FELT LIKE
FIRST DAY AT A NEW SCHOOL. THEN STEPHEN SONDHEIM WALKED IN
AND SAID, HELLO, ANNA, NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN. I GOT THE FEELING LIKE YOU WOULD
GET I IMAGINE IN HIGH SCHOOL IF JUST JUST CAME IN AND GAVE YOU
“HEAR GIRL” VIBES.>>Stephen: THOSE ARE THE
VIBES SONDHEIM GIVES OFF, HEY, GIRL…>>BUT THAT WAS, LIKE, ONE OF
THE TWO MOMENTS IN MY LIFE I WAS, LIKE, THE COOL GIRL.>>Stephen: I DID A MUSICAL
WITH HIM, ONE OF HIS MUSICALS, THE COMPANY, AND THE FIRST TIME
I HAD TO SING MY SONG WITH THE PHILHARMONIC, AND THE ONLY TIME
I GOT TO PRACTICE WITH THE PHILHARMONIC, RIGHT BEFORE I
OPENED MY MOUTH HE WALKED IN AND SAT DOWN ON THE FRONT ROW. THE WORD CRAP YOUR PANTS ARE
THROWN AROUND SO CASUALLY…>>IT SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR
MOMENTS LIKE THAT.>>Stephen: ONE OF THE MOST
TERRIFYING THINGS I EVER DID WAS OPEN MY MOUTH AND SING IN FRONT
OF THAT GUY. HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID, HEY,
GIRL… (LAUGHTER)
CAN WE SING SOMETHING?>>I’D LOVE IT! (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
>>Stephen: I WAS IN GLEE CLUB IN HIGH SCHOOL.>>YEAH, I WAS IN TWO CHOIRS.>>Stephen: YEAH, I WAS IN
GLEE CLUB, YOU WERE ON BROADWAY IN HIGH SCHOOL, OKAY? MY GIRLFRIEND WAS PLAYING ANNIE
OAKLEY AND I PLAYED FRANK BUTLER FROM MINIATURE GUN. GIVE ME A NOTE FOR FALLING IN

  1. First of all Anna, is super adorable, second of all she has amazing blue eyes, third that red dress looked amazing on her.

  2. “If you’re a theater nerd you’re kind of a pedant—“ 😂🤣 that joke went over a lot of people’s heads. She’s so witty!

  3. My boss loves Sondheim.
It makes me want eat cyanide, fire a Walther in my mouth and be crushed between a train and it the platform just as it pulls in. So when the train arrives your corpse is spun violently along the platform.
That’s how I feel when I hear anything by Sondheim.

  4. Just as Frodo's sword turns blue when Orc's appear, so too do my balls turn blue and penis hard when Anna Kendrick's voice I hear.

  5. Give me a threesome with Kendrick and Kristen Bell and then just shoot me 'cause life would never top that moment.

  6. okay, Colbert is my favorite host of all late night, but his "guest arrival" music is the WEIRDEST possible!

  7. Just as Frodo's sword turns blue when Orc's near…so too does my cock grow hard and my balls turn blue when Anna Kendrick's voice I hear.

  8. After watching many interviews Stephen Colbert does, I'm very touched by how he enjoyed this one…truly good music gives life and joy

  9. I’m low key disappointed they didn’t mention how she did a whole other musical movie- The Last Five Years

  10. Ok, that will be strange… I want musical based on “Roller Skates” by Ruth Sawyer where Lucinda is all grown up (and played by Anna), and Stephen is uncle Earle.

  11. That chuckle at 2:36–2:39 is so cute 💗 she’s so talented, gorgeous, has a voice of an angel and a killer smile. Love her😍❤️

  12. I believe Anna would have made it in the 1940's as well, where multi-talent was especially standout in the Vaudevillian sense. The only potential drawback (and it's not for me) is that most actresses had the turned up nose or inverted bridge, which Anna does not. Thoughts?

  13. Please, Steven thinks he knows the lord of the rings "Pipin doesn't do anything" no he just gets the Ents to go to war and take Saramaun out of the equation. Did nothing my ass.

  14. Stephen and Anna remind me of my Choir Geek classmates from high school. We may not have seen each other in years but when we do get together we will bust out into song wherever and whenever and think nothing of it. God I miss that.

  15. I'm sure they rehearsed this. These talk show things act like they are spontaneous – but they're not. The thing is – you could see them working with each other as they were singing to stay in harmony. Things like that are NOT easy to do. So – it was really nice to see them do this.
    .

  16. Everytime I think I cant crush on Anna more, i find out I'm wrong because she amazes me again!! Such a spectacular talent and voice!

  17. Stephen Colbert made a BIG mistake marrying his lovely wife instead of me!! And that’s just the cross he’ll have to bear…

  18. I just came from the Daily Show bit where she was bitching about the extreme air conditioning, and now all I can think is, “God, she must be freezing!”

  19. Why would anyone want to be Frodo??? The guy is only tripping over his own feet, he's the most useless movie character I've evern seen.

  20. She would make a perfect live version Disney princess.i think she would have been awesome as Belle instead of Emma Watson.
