Fayette couple loses landline phone service for more than a week


ALL OF THE WICKED WEATHER WE’VE HAD RECENTLY HAS CAUSED A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS. BUT AS WMTW NEWS 8’S MORGAN STURDIVANT EXPLAINS, ONE COUPLE IN FAYETTE SPENT MORE THAN A WEEK WITHOUT PHONE SERVICE. It’s been since August 6th that a number of residents in Fayette have gone without their landline phone service from FairPoint. Landline phones may not be as popular anymore, but for the Manters’ it’s a necessity they recently lost. Roberta Manter Fayette 33.04 “There was a crash, flash, boom, all right at the same time overhead, the house shook, and our phone went out.” They discovered a few of their neighbors also lost their Fair point phone service. 53.17 “They said they’d put us on the list and it might be a while before they got to us.” They said they placed a number of calls and received a few messages from Fairpoint saying they would restore service soon, but as the days went by, their service went unfixed. 01.23.17 “Called again Wednesday morning, they said sorry we’re having delays, couldn’t guarantee when they would get there, and I said, ‘well, my husband is disabled, our neighbor down the road has Parkinson’s Disease, we need to have our emergency phone service.” The Manters say they don’t have cell phones because of the cost and poor reception at their home. We reached out to Fairpoint after the Manter contacted us for help. Within a few hours they were there to fix it, saying the phone line had been struck by lightning.
