iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max Scratching too Easily?

iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max Scratching too Easily?

hi everyone Aaron here for ZolloTech and
many of you have been asking me if I’m experiencing more easily scratch
displays than I would in previous years and I think a lot of you are seeing this
from different news articles that are saying iPhone 11s are showing different
scuffs and scratches more easily despite their hardened glass so here I
have an iPhone 11 pro my iPhone 11 and my iPhone 11 Pro max and I take very
good care of them and I think a lot of you asked me because I don’t normally
use a screen protector or a case and so I’ve been using the 11 Pro max is my
main device and I actually did start looking into this and I have scratches
on the screen now I normally would get a few scuffs and scratches and under the
correct light right there under my finger you can see there’s a little bit
of a scratch this is something I can actually feel with my finger now so I
thought it was just the oleophobic coating but it could be down into the
glass as well I also have a couple of other light scratches on the display I
don’t know if you can see it but I have it very bright in here so we can see
them more easily but there are a couple light scratches around the display and
while that’s not unusual it seems pretty unusual for the speed at
which it occurred within three weeks and in fact it started to happen on other
displays as well the iPhone 11 I used more for my video that I had as far as
the review goes and the unboxing but it’s been in the box other than that and
I really don’t see any scratches or anything on this display however I
started to see scratches on the display of the iPhone 11 Pro and so I actually
added a screen protector because when I’m not using this it was in the box
until I received a screen protector so I’d put it in the box when I was done
using it I’d take it out and strangely enough it had some light scratches on
the screen and this was hardly used other than as a video camera to record
some of the iPhone 11 Pro review and it was used for very little else I used it
a little bit in between with the XS or the 11Pro Max rather and it has
scratches on it so I decided to put a screen protector it has a case on it
normally and that will keep it from scratching now I tend to use Apple Care
Plus for mice I mean as far as the screen protector
because it’s $30 to replace the display or $50 under that plan and so I’d rather
have it without a screen protector and deal with it later and then have Apple
replace the display if it gets bad enough and overtime displays do scratch
in fact here’s my XS Max that I had replaced in I believe it was May maybe
even as far back as March depending but this has a big gouge in it actually and
I’m not sure where it came from these things do happen
but let’s see if we can get it under the right light and under my finger here
you’ll see there’s a scratch all the way across the screen and I can actually
feel this it’s pretty deep on this display so it does happen over time so
there’s two ways we can handle this you can either have Apple Care Plus and have
them replace the screen or you can do the cheap and more obvious thing put a
screen protector on here so there’s not much more than that but I’m curious if
you’re having light scratches even though you’ve barely used it maybe you
saw scratches as soon as you took it out of the box I’d love to hear that in the
comments below and it’s really hard to see the scratches under dark light and
that’s why I have it so bright in here right now
so that we can actually see those scratches in sunlight you can see them
usually with the screen off otherwise you can’t see them but let me know if
you have those scuffs like I have here in the upper right and now that I know
where it is it’s easier to see but I’d love to hear if you’re having this issue
because it’s obviously important if a lot of people are having this
so despite harder glass it may be more brittle or more prone to scratching and
maybe it’s softer so it withstands more more hits I’m not sure that would be
less brittle but other channels that have tested the durability of the
display have not found it to be a problem as far as hardness and things
like that so I think it’s probably just the style of glass that it is so I’ll
link the screen protectors I’m using I think they’re really inexpensive but
there are plenty of good ones out there but I tend to buy them in three or four
packs and put them on and if I need to replace that I replace it but let me
know your thoughts in the comments below if you’re seeing these right out of the
box with these scratches on it I’d love to hear what your experience is with it
because that’s pretty unfortunate especially if you get it right out of
the box return it to Apple and have them give you a new one if you get it like
that but let me know your thoughts or your
experience in the comments below of course I’ll link this wallpaper in the
description as I always do and if you haven’t subscribed already please
subscribe and if you enjoyed the video please give it a like as always thanks
for watching this is Erin I’ll see you next time

  1. I have deep scratches on my iPhone 11. Within 30 minutes of taking it out of the box. Didn’t even have a chance to put a screen protector on before it happened. Now the screen protector hides the scratches 😕

  2. No scratches on my 11 Pro with no screen protector but with a case. Also never put it in my pocket with anything else

  3. I had a screen protector and a case ordered when I ordered my phone and that's the first thing I put on it as soon as I unboxed it

  4. Everyone, just get a screen protector with No notch 2.5 d had only the cut out for the speaker and don’t feel like a screen protector at all it just feels like the iPhone glass

  5. I had a scratch on my selfie camera when I purchased my XS Max last year right out of the box. I took it back to Apple store the next day and they replaced with a new one. I installed a glass screen protector when I got home. I would advise to install the screen protector, they are very inexpensive and you would not have to worry about scratches.

  6. Yup….Had mine for just over 24 hours and I noticed a scuff mark on the left side of my 11 Pro Max…I never used a screen protector but I put one on. I thought I was being incredibly careful. Put phone in different pocket from keys. Held phone screen side facing palm when carrying keys…ARGH!!!

  7. My Pro Max has been in a case and had a screen protector on it since about two hours after I got it. And the front glass scratched in that two hours

  8. For the past 6 years, I have never used any iPhone without using the screen protector from the very moment I took it out of the box. I rather change my screen protector time to time than any single scratch on the original screen. It's safer and you get a lot more when you resale them. Btw I use the one with the edge to edge tempered glass which you won't even notice its there.

  9. iPhone 11 Pro Max obtained on launch day. This phone has been in various cases, but without a screen protector and has seen very heavy use. There are micro scratches all over the screen, but only visible when examine under bright light and very closely. When it gets to be unbearable, I’ll probably pay the $29 for an AppleCare + screen replacement.

  10. I have owned an iPhone 10s Max for almost one year now and there is not a single scratch or ding or mark on the display. The phone is perfect, just like brand new almost.

  11. I learnt many years ago that glass scratches and no matter how careful you are things happen. For sometime I have always used a tempered glass screen. It protects your $1100 investment and has saved me from scratches and potential cracks many times. I could never use a phone without one and there is no excuse as they are relatively cheap and also the non-greasy ones makes for a better experience in any case and protects the coating.

The same with cases, an absolute must. I cannot explain why others would not have these two almost necessary extras, unless they have the finances that damage is not going to upset them.

  12. Bought the phone, bought a privacy protector, and had to wait 10 days for their otterbox to be delivered ? Guess who didn’t use their phone for 10 days lol. I don’t play that raw dawg phone shit man lol

  13. After two days of not having a screen protector on my iPhone 11 I ended up with a scratch. I immediately bought a screen protector. I’m assuming it was my fault for the scratch but I thought I was being extremely careful with it.

  14. Jerry came here to make a video that’s why they are scratched
SCRATCHES AT A LEVEL 6 WITH DEEPER GROOVES AT A LEVEL 7

  15. I have a few scratches at the top of my 11 pro, barely used it but got it 3 weekends ago. Very frustrating because I use a case and never put it face down

  16. My XSMAX scratched even using a screen guard. I dont know how. From day one i used a screen protector recently when that was broken when i removed it for re applying a new one i found a big scratch dont know what it caused.

  17. Well I seen people treat a phone like an ass with display face down on a table or items in the same pocket etc. I never had a scratch on my phone's ever. But I treat them well.

  18. I had a few small scratches after the first day, barely noticeable in most lighting. I have a screen protector now thankfully

  19. Opened the box of my wife’s new iPhone 11, took the screen film off, and the screen had a big scratch on it already. Sent it back to Apple and am waiting for a new phone.

  20. Full cover on phone since day one. Front silicon case and rear hard all clear 100% scratch proof. Never liked glass screen protectors

  21. Best way is to put screen protector and that's it 🙂 no more scratches or even if you drop the iphone, good quality screen protector absorbs impact !
    Use screen protectors !!!

  22. I have 2 minor scratches on the screen and i take tooooo much care of my 11 pro, another issue i found is that the phone gets too much hot from little game playing, i mean really really hot to easily, anyone noticed the same issue ?

  23. Never used the phone with no screen protector i wen to replace it because it was dirty and notice that i had some scratches on right top of the screen and see some minor scratches.

  24. I don’t care about scratches just use it. I’m paying for Insurance every month so I don’t even care if I drop it.

  25. People early on: “I’m gonna use the phone naked, feels so good, screen protectors and cases suck” 1 month later “WTF, my phone scratched already? Supposed to be the toughest glass eVAr!!!” To the very least, use a screen protector guys.

  26. Its because the lens of other iphone scratches the screen when you stack it up. The lens is sapphire. Thats why yhe scratches located in the upper right corner. Its where the lens sit from the other phone (if you stack it)

  27. Haven’t noticed any scratches yet and I got my Pro Max on launch day. I also have AppleCare+ so if it does get scratched I’ll get the screen replaced.

  28. After watching Jerry Rig Everything's test it seems odd that so many are having this issue, but certainly seems to be the case. I have a glass screen protector on mine from day one. It doesn't cover the edges, but I'm not seeing scratches there. Still, seems we have an iPhone 11/Pro/Max Scratch gate. Long live the Gates!

  29. I put a glass screen protector on day one, but that’s definitely something I’ve noticed on all my iPhones since the 6.

  30. I have a few small small ones. X and XS Max scratched easily for me so I’ve been taking extra care with this one as a test. Good timing on the video because I’ve been debating getting a screen protector the last couple days so I’ll probably order one today.

  31. No scratches yet. Used for the first few days without a screen protector. Had Clearplex installed at Best Buy. Had Clearplex on my 8 never a scratch. This time the Clearplex was not installed properly, started to bubble which looks like scratches till you look closely. Best Buy replace no question ask and the screen looks pristine. The only dislike with Clearplex install, will not cover the edges like it did on my 8.

  32. Seems like the displays on these newer iPhones are softer. My iPhone X has a couple really deep scratches that I can feel with my fingernail. However my iPhone 5S which I used until I got the X is relatively fine. It has the usual minor scratches you accumulate over time but not the deep gashes I can see on my X.

  33. I got a few micro scratches on the back of my iPhone XR. I got a screen protector and still got Apple Care Plus for it.

  34. iPhone 11 Pro Max with zero scratches so far. No screen protector. Goes in and out of my pocket and that’s it. I previously had an iPhone X and used that without a screen protector as well with the same result. Zero scratches. If anything serious happens I will replace with Apple Care + and get a screen protector afterwards

  35. Interesting! I have NO scraches or scuffs on my everyday iPhone 11. I always put a case on it but have never used a screen protector on any of my phones. I’m careful not to have keys or change in the pocket I keep my phone in.

  36. I both an iPhone 11 and 11 pro max and both have actually scratched really easily and its strange cause I rarely used my 11 pro max I'm using my galaxy fold and the galaxy fold dosent even have scratches like the 11 pro max does and I love both phones equally

  37. All the users in India, get the screen protector and a case! No Apple care plus for us.

Thank you for the detailed video, Aaron! 🙂

  38. You either have a softer glass that doesn’t break on a drop, but it’s scratches easily, or a harder, that will break – shatter – and won’t get scratched easily. They’ve switched it up from the 11 – the all new “not so breaky glass” they announced.

  39. I've seen scratches on every modern phone that they say is the strongest glass ever. There are always micro scratches on the screen. They're hardly noticable in daily usage but they drive me nuts.

  40. A screen protector is a must for me and a case even though I'm super careful with my iPhone X. Holding out till next years iPhones.

  41. If there are scratches which do not harm, what's the problem? Are your screens without any fingerprints? How about your computer screens?

  42. I got the pro max and weirdly enough ive been using it everyday without a case in my jeans and leaving it out a lot and nun really has happened i see no scratches and still looking new, maybe its for some units?

  43. I have a screen protector on my iPhone 11 and the Silicone Case. I prefer without anything but it’s more safe 😒

  44. Why will anyone wants to buy a screen protector for a $900-1400 phone ? For that price it should be scratch resistant screen. I’m happy with my iPhone 7.

  45. Already bought the insurance, funky casing, screen protector & lots more still i have yet received my phone since the released date. Too many still waiting

  46. Get the screen replaced for scratches? okay… I wouldn't say that this is an actual issue. Hardened glass doesn't mean it's more scratch-proof. Maybe it's more durable against shock but I wouldn't go to an extent to test it out. Just put a tempered glass screen protector right out of the box and you will have no problem. For those who are saying I don't like the way it looks, find the right one. There are tempered glass screen protector that has black surrounding like the original panel. Once you put that tempered glass screen protector and a case on your phone, you won't be able to tell you have a screen protector. Problem solved.

  47. Have you had any trouble updating iPadOS 13.2 Beta2 as I am on able to update at all and it just keeps on saying that my ipadosis up-to-date yet my iPad settings read out that I am still on iPadOS 13.2 beta 1?

  48. Put a screen protector on mine recently. Was going to have since day one but I messed up the application 4 times and ran out of protectors 😛 Anyway, no, under direct light I could only see one small imperfection and it could easily just be the coating. I’ve hade a dedicated iPhone pocket in my jeans and have let nothing else be in there.

It feels way better to finally have a protector on. I recommend ESR’s because it came with a decent mounting frame in-box and doesn’t have that silly notch cutout at the top, other than a hole for the speaker.

  49. It’s the same with every device: few scratches after some weeks and it looks terrible after a year or so. Reviewers are just trying to create a new „gate“, because clicks.

  50. That so disappointing when spending so much money on the I phone it should never happen thanks for telling us the problem. Now I will start using the case and screen protector. Took me a long time to save up for the phone now I am regretting of buying it.

  51. "Glass is Glass and will crack and scratch" . 🙂 that's my personal philosophy. If you're not a YouTube Tech reviewer with several brand new iPhones at your disposal,

than is best to protect your one and only investment with a proper case of your choice and a screen protector….screen scratches on my one phone give me really bad allergies…lol

  52. I bought my iPhone 11 Pro Max like 4 days ago and I was waiting on the delivery of the screen protector and case. It fell today and in the part of the stainless steel it got damaged in 5 little parts , and some little not deep scratches on the screen. I’m so depressed, I had all my life iPhones and none of them have ever scratched so easily. 😭😭😭😭 I’ve been crying all day

  53. I experienced this with my iPhone XS Max after I received it. I saw scratch on the screen hardly to be seen unless under bright light or out door. When the screen protector on the phone you cannot see the scratch.
