iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone 11 Hands-On: New Features!

iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone 11 Hands-On: New Features!

– I’m Andru Edwards and
you’re watching Gear Live. Apple announced updates across the board to its iPhone lineup. Both the iPhone 10R and
iPhone 10S get worthy updates in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. I was able to spend some hands-on time with both iPhone 11 models and in this video, I
tell you all about them. (upbeat music) What’s going on tech squad? Andru Edwards here,
editor-in-chief at and as I mentioned, I
was here in Cupertino for the big iPhone 11 event. This video’s gonna give
you the complete rundown of both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. Of course, Apple also announced
a new entry-level iPad and a new Apple Watch Series five. I do have videos coming
on those devices as well. So if you want to see those, be sure to hit that subscribe button and notification bell in order
to find out when those drop. But, as I said, the
reason we’re here today is to talk about that new iPhone
11 and the iPhone 11 Pros. Now all these phones are powered by the new Apple A13 Bionic chip, which Apple says is the
fastest chip in any smartphone with the fastest graphics performance of any smartphone as well. Visually, both phones get a new look. The iPhone 11 has smooth glass
with a frosted camera area on the back, while the iPhone 11 Pro has a completely frosted back with a smooth glass camera area. Both phones use the strongest
glass on any smartphone and, in fact, in the iPhone 11 ad, Apple actually shows the phone
getting dropped into a purse, dropping on the floor,
getting caught in the car between the seat and the armrest, so they seem pretty confident
about that strong glass claim. The new iPhones also
pick up faster Face ID so unlocking your device
happens up to 30% faster than it did before and from more angles. Now the most obvious physical
change on the outside of these devices, when
you look at the back you’re gonna notice, each
phone line has picked up an additional camera. So the iPhone 10R had one camera and the iPhone 11 has two. And the iPhone 10S line had two cameras, and now the iPhone 11 Pro will get three. Thanks to these upgrades,
the iPhone 11 will support a new night mode in the camera. This is thanks to the new wide sensor with 100% focus pixels
that allows you to capture these great night images. This delivers huge improvement to photos captured indoor and outdoor
in low-light environments resulting in brighter images with natural colors and reduced noise. But the rear camera isn’t the
only one that got some love with this update, as both the
iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro also have a new 12-megapixel front camera which allows you to punch in and punch out of standard mode and wide mode. In addition, it’ll automatically
switch over to wide mode when you move the phone from portrait into landscape orientation. The front camera does now
also support 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and
also supports slow-mo as well, introducing what apple is
now referring to as slowfies, slow motion selfie and
I’m sure hashtag slowfie is gonna be trending
when these devices launch in just over a week. One other big improvement
before we get into the specifics of each iPhone 11 line is that all models support Gigabit-Class LTE and the new Wi-Fi six standard as well. Now let’s talk about what
each line has to offer and what makes them different,
starting with the iPhone 11. As I mentioned, the iPhone 11 picks up a new ultra-wide lens in addition
to the standard wide lens that was there on the iPhone 10R. It still has that same 6.1 inch
liquid retina HD LCD display along with the aluminum frame
with that stronger glass that I mentioned earlier. Battery life is always a big concern when people talk about smartphones and the iPhone 11 picks
up one additional hour of battery life over the 10R, which last year was the iPhone
with the best battery life ever released in history. So it’s definitely nice
to see the iPhone 11 now tops the iPhone 10R by an hour. The iPhone 11 is available in six colors. You’ll find it in black, white, green, product red, purple and yellow with prices starting at $699
for a 64-gigabyte model. You can choose to bump up to 128 gigs or 256
gigabytes at the top end. Moving over to the iPhone 11 Pro. This comes in two sizes, similar to what we saw with the iPhone 10S and iPhone 10S Max. The standard iPhone 11
Pro comes in at 5.8 inches while the iPhone 11 Pro
Max comes in at 6.5 inches. So what separates the iPhone
11 from the iPhone 11 Pro? Well the Pro designation
comes down to several things. We’ve got the camera system, the three-dimensional matte glass finish, better water resistance, insane battery life and a new display. The iPhone 11 Pro picks
up the new ultra-wide lens in addition to the wide
and telephoto ones. One cool thing here is that you can capture portrait mode shots with either the telephoto or wide camera now, giving you greater
variety and better choices when taking your pictures. Apple is using computational photography to fuse data from all three lenses in order to improve image detail. A technology called deep fusion combines nine different images using
a neural network analysis on every single pixel. Apple Senior Vice President
of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, described it as – It is computational
photography mad science. – Now I did also mention water resistance. The iPhone 11 is water
resistant up to two meters for up to 30 minutes. Well, the iPhone 11 Pro will be okay at being submerged up to
four meters for 30 minutes. Talking about battery
life, the iPhone 11 Pro offers four more hours of battery life than last year’s iPhone 10S and the iPhone 11 Pro Max offers five more hours of battery life than last year’s iPhone 10S Max. Now, that is a marked
increase in battery life from one generation to the next and I have to applaud Apple
for making that happen. iPhone 11 Pro also has a
new Super Retina XDR display that offers a two million
to one contrast ratio and can go up to 1,200 nits of brightness when watching HDR content. iPhone 11 Pro is available in four colors. You’re gonna get it in
silver, gold, space gray and a brand new midnight green. And when I first heard the iPhone 11 Pro was gonna come in a green color, I was instantly skeptical. I’m not a huge fan of green. But when you see the
midnight green on this phone, I’ve gotta tell you, this is the one to get. Starting price for the iPhone 11 Pro is $999 if you want the 5.8 inch model and $1099 if you want to go
with the 6.5 inch version. Both of those start at 64 gigs of storage, but they also offer both 256 gigs and 512 gigabyte storage
capacities as well. The iPhone 11 and iPhone
11 Pro will be available for pre-order on September 13th at 5:00 AM Pacific, 8:00 AM Eastern which is a change from the
midnight Pacific, 3:00 AM Eastern that Apple’s done with all
other iPhone pre-orders. So be sure to mark your
calendar appropriately. The phones go on sale on September 20th. Now obviously, there is
much more to talk about with these new iPhone 11 models. I will also be doing a dedicated video specifically taking a look at the cameras on both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro so be sure to subscribe
in order to capture those when they drop in the future. Any questions about the
iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro, drop ’em down in the comments and I will meet you there
for further discussion. Thank you so much for
watching as always, guys. I appreciate your support. I’m Andru Edwards and I will
catch you in the next video. (fun rock music)

  1. Upgrading the whole squad from XS max 512GB to pro max 512GB
    512GB midnight green: business phone
    512GB space grey: myself
    512GB gold: wife
    512GB silver: son
    512 GB Gold: daughter
    512GB space grey: son
    512 GB midnight green: son

  2. Not really a fan of the rear frosted back on the 11 pro Max. Wish they would’ve made it with a glass back like the iPhone 11 Xr

  3. Great video with clear, concise information, thank you very much.
Really, an outstanding job in presenting the facts. 👍🏻👏🏻

  4. Really cool video! Good information and nice shots! The only thing that was a bit annoying is the dirty lens/sensor on some shots

  5. Question I originally wanted to get the iPhone 11 but now I’m thinking of doing the 256gb iPhone 11 pro midnight green I currently have the iPhone XR but I know that the pro”s screen is smaller that the regular 11 and the xr and that’s why I’m kind of hesitant because of the screen size like I with the bigger screen you can see more stuff than the pro that is 5.8 inches my question is does those 3 inches really matter with regard to the screen size with the iPhone 11 and 11 pro?

  6. To me it’s not worth upgrading and their Discontinuing the iPhone XS Max, that’s like discontinuing a rare car 🚗 ahead of its time iPhone XS Max will be underestimated watch and see and yes The phone pro max might be a little better with miner upgrades but for me it’s not worth the upgrade from my iPhone XS Max at the moment

  7. I have an IPhone XS Max 512gb and although I have no need to upgrade my FOMO is trying to convince me to upgrade even though I know I’ll have to upgrade again next year to get a 5g model ☹️

  8. I pre-ordered the iPhone 11 pro max today in the midnight green color! I'm sooo excited!! I'm coming from an iPhone 7 😀

  9. What’s the difference between the iPhone XS MAX and the iPhone 11 Pro Max besides the lens n color😒😪😪😪I’m going to wait for the 2020 iPhone maybe than I will be blown for now I’m keeping my XS Max 512gb

  10. I still don’t understand why they made the camera from glossy glass. They want it to stand out even more? It would have been so much better if the whole back was frosted glass

  11. That camera design really isnt as bad as people make it put to be,I'll be honest when I seen the leaks I thought it looked horrendous but I mean those are leaks so they wont be accurate to the final product. But aside from that the look of it has grown on me,pre ordered the gold one!

  12. At last a video that you can see green and grey colors together!!! Really thanks man, you helped me decide which I prefer between them! Green it is!!!

  13. Normal improvements to battery & camera is fine but no 90htz screen & still that notch…11pro with only 64g for $1100 is ridiculous. Next month Oneplus 7t will have 6.55" 90htz , flat screen (I like that) small tear drop front camera , and a headphone jack ! Choise of 128g or 256g with both 8g ram. $650-$700

  14. I ordered my wife the iPhone 11 Purple. And for me iPhone 11 Pro Max midnight green. Shout out from big island Hawaii 🌴✌️👍😎🤙🌞🍎

  15. 5:33 are you just repeating what Apple said? They always throw in random words that no one understands just to impress people. Super retina xdr? Liquid retina? And iPhone 11 pro max? Seriously? 🤦‍♂️

  16. I have a question. Since I am blind. Did you try going on different apps when you touch the iPhone 11 Pro ? Like opening different apps to see how fast it performed? Let me know. Because nobody’s talking about that. Since this phone has a better processor

  17. Nice review. One thing not being mentioned is the 11 Pro/Pro Max support cellular 4×4 unlike iPhone 11 2X2. This might matter to some in weaker signal areas and most on T-Mobile will benefit from this. Also this year all iPhone 11 phone now have the LTE Band 71 (600Mhz) for T-mobile in rural areas. Just thought I would,d point that out.

  18. Help! New subscriber. So, my wife wants the smallest iPhone for 2019. We both have the iPhone 8…she has the 8 and I have the 8 Plus. The wife loves her iPhone 8, but needs the Face recognition. She had a triple fusion in her neck and needs that, so is the iPhone 11 her best bet? Talking total phone size. Thank you. Great channel! 

  19. Hi Andru hope you are great. I listen to geared up. First thank you it's a quality production that I enjoy. Is possible to get the new host the same microphone you use? It's still great but you sound much better than than the new host. While I enjoy the high end – I also enjoy the geek end of things. Any chance you might mention pinetime?

  20. I really like the camera bump and how they made it look. All those renders got the look wrong. This is my favorit look in the X series of phones. Apple really nailed it and all those tech writers with their ugly mock-ups got it wrong. Apple was not going to release an ugly phone. That midnight green has got me to change the color I get this year. I have always gotten space grey or black but I ordered the new midnight green this year. I really like how the pro-max looks!

  21. Completely stuff between the midnight green, as for green is my favorite color and it just looks absolutely amazing or the black one, it looks to chic, idk which to pick 😭
