iPhone X vs Pixel 2, three months later

iPhone X vs Pixel 2, three months later

– Okay, It’s been six months since Apple first announced the iPhone 10. – And around
five months since Google first announced the Pixel
two and the Pixel two XL. – These are both great phones, which is what you might expect because they’re both flag ship phones. But, after actually
using them after a while, it’s clear, to me at least, which one of these is the better phone. – You mean the one that doesn’t cost a thousand dollars and is
still a fantastic phone. – Uh, no. – Oh, I missed this. – Now, the iPhone
10 was a pretty radical redesign for Apple. It’s the first iPhone
without a home button. It has an OLED display,
it’s size is somewhere in between a regular sized
iPhone and a plus iPhone. And, you can unlock it with your face. – Okay, the smaller Pixel two doesn’t look all that different from the first Pixel. But the Pixel two XL looks different. It has a nearly all screen front design. Both have OLED displays, and keep in mind, this is only Google’s 2nd
generation of Pixel phones. And already they are
up there competing with the top smartphone makers. – Okay, well, the iPhone 10 is fast. Like ridiculously fast. It’s processor is faster than processors in a lot of laptops. In the time that I’ve been using it, I’ve been kind of blown away by it. – Well, the Pixel two is no slouch either. It’s running on a
Snapdragon 835 processor, which is powering all of the
top Android phones right now. It might not be a bionic processor, but it’s still pretty fast. – One of the biggest changes
with the iPhone 10 though is that Apple has also
redesigned the way you interact with the phone. So the way you switch between apps, or swipe to see notifications. Now that I’ve used this for
a while, I really like it. Okay, I’ll admit, it took me way longer to get used to these interactions
than I thought it would. And I wouldn’t be
surprised if other people got the new phone and hated it. But, now when I pick up other phones, I just think the iPhone 10’s UI is probably the way to do it. – The Pixel two has some UI changes too. Although that’s because of Android, and not specific to Pixels. Like the search bar is now at
the bottom of the home screen. And the display is always on, which seems like a small
thing, but after a few months you kind of find that you
can’t live without it. One of the things that
really annoys me about that phone, is that if you
just want to see the time, you have to pick the phone up. – No I don’t. – Okay, what time is it? (gentle music) – (sigh) – Now if you’ve been seriously
considering these phones for the past few months,
then you’ve probably read all of the camera comparisons. In fact, the Verge did one
that you should go check out. But, to sum it up, both of these phones have excellent cameras. On the Pixel two XL a lot
of the camera improvements are happening on the software side. So for example, this now
shoots in portrait mode with a nice soft background, which the iPhone has done for a while. But this one doesn’t have two cameras. – Yeah, but the iPhone 10
not only has portrait mode, it also has studio lighting now. Like this. (light music) – That looks awful. – Well, it’s pretty great, when it works. – Okay, also, we think
that the Pixel two XL shoots a little bit better in low light. Just saying. – Yeah, but not that much better. Also, the iPhone 10 and the iPhone eight both support wireless charging, which your phone doesn’t. – Yeah, but, you can charge the Pixel two and the Pixel two XL
with USBC which is how I charge my MacBook, which
means I’m just carrying around fewer cables. – Okay, well, your phone,
doesn’t have a headphone jack. – Neither does yours. – I’m just pointing out that you’re finally catching up with the times. – Your point makes zero sense. – Another thing you’re only going to get with the iPhone is Siri. Now, I know you may be thinking, “Siri is useless.” But, the more I’ve used it,
the better it has gotten. – You’re kidding, right? – No. – Okay, let’s do a test. I’m gonna squeeze the phone, Who is the star of the movie, ‘The Post’ – [Google Assistant Voice]
Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and 13 others. – Okay, no problem. Hey Siri, Who is the star
of the movie, ‘The Post’? – [Siri] I found nine movies
for you to chose from. Post Grad, The Post, Post Pop Depression, Life at the Royal Albert
Hall, The Last Post, New Mommy Fitness; How
to get your body back functional post pregnancy exp… – Yeah, I’m sorry, Google
Assistant is just better, it just is. – But, I have face ID. I wouldn’t go as far as
saying that face ID is the best feature, of the new iPhone 10. But I think it’s the most significant, the one that feels like
it’s propelling us forward into the future. Now when I need to unlock my phone, or log into apps, or
even just pay a friend with a peer to peer
app, I just use my face. – We literally wrote an
article about how face ID was unusable if the phone’s not directly in front of you. Like, when you’re in the car, and said that you missed
having the home button. – Yeah, but it’s grown on me. I still think that the
in-app experience is a little bit more useful than to using it to unlock the phone. But, how’s your finger print sensor? – It’s fine. It’s totally fine, it works. And it’s in the right
place, where it should be. On the back of the phone. – Yeah, so what happens when
you have your phone down, on the table face up. – Well, I guess that’s bad if you’re the kind of person who
puts the phone down, ever. – Also, I have animoji. – Oh good God. – What this really comes down to, after using both of these
phones for a while is ecosystem. Which ecosystem do you want to live in? – Or be locked into. But really, this is a
point that we agree on. It’s all about the apps and
services that you use the most. – Like iMessage. If you love iMessage, then
no matter how fantastic the Pixel two or the Pixel two XL are, you’re not gonna really want that phone because you can’t get iMessage. – And, if you don’t care about iMessage, and you don’t care about
using air play or air drop or having an Apple watch,
and you want the most highly optimized version of
Android that you can get, then you’re going to want this phone. I mean, I still use the same Google apps and services that you use on that phone. And I didn’t pay a
thousand dollars for this. – What she’s really trying to say is, that they’re both great phones, and you probably can’t go
wrong with either of them. But there is one that is slightly better which is why it costs slightly more. – You would say that. – So these are my long term
impressions of what it’s like to use the iPhone 10 – Hey, you’re back. – I’m back. – Where’ve you been? – I was off shooting my Verge
video series Next Level. – Oh, is that your Verge
video series about innovation? – Yes, You should watch it. You would learn something.

  1. That movie thing is bs. If you actually look into it Siri gives you several options so you can choose the movie that you want. It gives the same information. Not saying Siri is a good as google (its not google assistant is wayyy better) but choose a better example, for example contextual situations where Siri struggles and google Assistant nails it!

  2. When she was talking about having to pick up the phone to look at the time she should of just tapped in the screen

  3. The iPhone X doesn’t have an always on display but you don’t have to pick it up to look at the time just tap it and than it turns on

  4. Won’t consider android until they have a version with a built in messaging and video chat option like iMessage and FaceTime.

It’s stupid that from where you make a call, video chat will only work from Samsung to Samsung or LG to LG. Why isn’t Duo built into the software, linked automatically to contact instead of an app they have to download (like FaceTime). Same goes with their texting app (can’t recall what it is). Why is that not the standard texting app across all androids, regardless of developer? They allow each individual company that makes an android phone to put their own “flavor” of android on it.

However, I do like that I can install whatever I want (showbox, mobdro, Kodi, etc). Even Apple is catching up to that. Have showbox on my iPhone and no, it’s not a jail broken iPhone.

Had the S8 shortly after it came out when I was due for an upgrade…and returned it a week later. Until they fix crap like that, I’ll stick with Apple.

  5. It’s funny how once she has a macbook and then she goes on how the ecosystem doesnt matter… i found it weird

  6. You really don’t have to pick it up to check the time, you just tap the display and it turns on 🙄
Plus what the heck why is she picking up the phone so high for Face ID you don’t have to be right in front of it really it has a pretty wide field of view
I would know I have one

  7. Phones are overrated – stick straps to your laptop – instant digital manbag. Welcome to the future.

  8. my dad says that the iphone x is overly priced but i think that that’s true but the camera is AMAZING! but tbh you should get a camera that good half the price and still have a headphone jack with a iphone 6

  9. The iPhone X doesn’t cost that much more than the highest end pixel 2 xl and you can see the time without picking it up just tap the screen once and there it is

  10. True that she couldn't just look at the iPhone X/10 but she could just say, "Hey, Siri. What time is it?"
    Lol
I know it's more than just looking at the phone but it's still a hands free option

  11. What's so cool about iMessage?! There are so many different messaging apps to use on Android…. From Textra to Hangouts to Allo to Go SMS…. And BTW, the Pixel XL 2 has face unlock.

  12. What's up with that iMessaga BS. There are a ton of other Apps that work both ways, like Whatsapp. People saying that iMessage is why the iPhones are better are plain stupid. I have both eco-systems, iOS runs smooth, but Android means, like Mel Gibson in Braveheart said, FREEEEEDOOOOMMM!

  13. wooooow don't know about the tap to wake feature iPhone X???? also when she asked Siri about the post, it set off my HomePod and she said the same answer the pixel said

  14. Wireless charging is of no use when ur phone takes hours and hours to charge…
U HV to make faces or hold it phone in such an awful way to unlock using face id but fingerprint sensor doesn't require this
Even pixel has the face unlock in smart lock settings

  15. I agree that Google assistant is better than Siri but the thing is you can install Google assistant in iPhone.

  16. i never understand how people say they took awhile to get used to the interactions on iphone, it took me like 15 minutes to feel comfortable. like its literally just 3-4 gestures to remember

  17. Google pixel 2 also had face ID, and you don't have to pick it up and have it dirrecty at your face, I've double tapped the screen while it's on a table or next to me on the couch and it recognized my face laying down and not having it in my face

  18. Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android Android

  19. IPhone looks better and has the better battery life than pixel I have a pixel 2 and it has Android p on it and it has for a while because the software has been out for a while the final version and I've only been able to get three hours on the pixel what a joke the iPhone can get 6 or more you can obviously get about 8 hours if you turn off notifications like on my iPad I was able to get 10 hours on the iPad I turned off all the notifications and I got 12 hours same with my iPhone 4S my iPhone 4S last 7 Days of not using it at all in notifications are off if I try to do that with a pixel like I have already done it still will last 3 hours what a joke Google. Probably sitting over there jacking off

  20. Google sucks they didn't do anything the only difference they did is put a speaker on the bottom bezel and that's about it even the standard iPhone 8 last longer than the pixel 2 and the pixel 3 when that gets released iPhone is so much better and so much faster my pixel is slowing down and draining and I have the new pixel 2 and I got it on day one and it was draining and it still does that to this day I'm not changing the battery because I did that with old Android phone and it didn't help it just made it worse

  21. You can tap on the screen of the iPhone 10 and be able to see the time you don't need to take a glance at your phone always on sucks battery and it sucks in general

  22. You can get Google assistant on the iPhone then you have the best of both worlds you don't need a pixel phone

  23. At least Google assistant and Siri are better than S Voice S voice is like watching paint dry and then once it finally does dry it doesn't give you the right answer

  24. And you can unlock it with your face sideways and iOS 12 I have been iOS 12 beta 6 on my iPhone x and then I'm going to be getting the iPhone 11 when it comes out as my actual phone so I'm going to upgrade to that and then the iPhone x will be my old phone but you can still unlock with your face sideways that's coming in the full version of iOS 12 and it's already here in beta 6

  25. And the fingerprint sensor on the back is just a joke you could rub something against the back of your phone and the display will turn on whether you have the fingerprint sensor enabled or not doesn't matter it's still very annoying which doesn't matter with an iPhone cuz you don't have to worry about that cuz it doesn't have that ugly fingerprint sensor on the back and it doesn't do that because it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor on the back

  26. IPhone will always be Google all the time Google's software Hardware sucks and Battery one has way better iPhone for the win ☺️

  27. Who cares about the pixel most people get Samsung phones and iPhones anyways and they are way much better with the fingerprint sensor in the back with the Samsung phones than they are with the pixel phones they don't bug out when you rub something on the back of the phone whether the fingerprint sensor is enabled with your fingerprint or not it still does that Samsung phones don't do that because the fingerprint sensor isn't big enough to be able to register your fingerprint as if you rub something on the back of it like an iPod touch or anyting and then it turns the screen on which is very annoying it's been pissing me off that's why iPhones are better and you don't have to search for contacts one by one like you do on a Google phone from the recent contact app update iPhones you don't need to update your contact app you update the phone and then updates the contacts for you and it doesn't glitch up the contacts app when you do that wearing your contacts disappear and you just have to search for the person your contacts should show up which they don't on the recent Google pixel contacts app update which also makes me want to switch to iPhone only In pixel phones they do that

  28. That's wrong the pixel 2 is 870 bucks plus a case plus the plan that you have to be on plus the extra accessories you have to get for it like a Bluetooth speaker to listen to music out loud or even headphones instead of the speaker either way you're paying about $1,000 for it also that's for the normal pixel 2 not the pixel 2 XL that 2 XL is $880 at Best Buy yeah I'd rather go for the iPhone you get more than you do on the pixel and the pixel can't unlock in the dark because it just can't if the pixel one can't do it the pixel 2 can't and that is why I'm switching from a pixel one to an iPhone 11

  29. The only thing the iPhone beats the pixel 2 in 4k video and speed. Overall camera, display, ai, durability, battery life, and customization go to the pixel 2.

  30. FACE👏 DETECTION👏 IS 👏ON 👏ANDROID👏 AND👏 HAS👏 BEEN 👏FOR 👏A 👏LONG 👏TIME👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

  31. The Pixel 2 is slightly cheaper, but it’s still overpriced for what you get. iPhone X brings a bunch of new features that justifies its price to an extent. So yeah, iPhone X ftw
