Mobile phone plans & the law

Mobile phone plans & the law

It’s scary to think, but four out of ten mobile
phone owners in Australia have experienced bill shock Well the good news is, there are ways to avoid
it, and keep your money under control! First, let’s talk plans. Pre-paid plans are a bit like putting fuel
in your car. Without fuel, the car wont go, right?
Well pre-paid plans are much the same. You pay for your phone service upfront, then
when you run out you can’t call, sms, or surf the net until you top up. You’ll never get a bill in the mail, and you’ll
always be in total control! Post-paid plans work differently.
You sign a contract that says every month, you agree to pay a minimum amount, and in
return, the phone company allows you to call, text, and surf the net up to a particular
value. At the end of the month, you’ll get a bill
for the minimum amount that you agreed to, plus the cost of any extra calls, text or
data used. It’s possible that the bill will be much higher
than you expect. So if you’re thinking about choosing a postpaid
plan, think carefully about whether you can afford the monthly payments and work out just
how much you’ll be using the phone. There’s a handy form on our website to help
work this out. Now comes the fun part! Hit the web or pop into your local phone shops
to pick up brochures on the different plans they offer. By law, every mobile phone plan comes with
something called a Critical Information Summary that tells you the costs that go with each
plan. Most importantly, be patient and take your
time to find a plan that you can afford, because it’s no fun being in debt. Now, These are just a few tips but there’s
loads of great information on the Lawstuff website that will help you to decide which
plan is right. Plus you’ll also find important information
on how to manage your plan, and what to do if. you need to end your contract and where
to go for help. If you need legal advice and you’re under
