New Cell Phone Disappointment

New Cell Phone Disappointment

[Captions by Y Translator]
You guys, it finally came. And are you ready to tell
everyone what that secret was? Are you over it now,
and you can tell everyone? Yes. Julie’s Gizmo watch
is not compatible. I do love you, and I do care about you,
and I understand your feelings. I’m just not giving in to him. I’ve always wanted to do this. Good morning, Passengers. Today is a lazy Friday. We don’t have school today. Very often at least
twice a month, the kids don’t have
school on Fridays, which I absolutely love. Mom, can you make waffles? You want waffles? We haven’t made it
in such a long time. I’ll make you a deal. I’ll make waffles tomorrow. Is that okay? Can you get a bowl of cereal
or oatmeal today? I will make waffles tomorrow. I’m just not in the mindset
for waffles today. Julie made this
banana bread yesterday. It’s my mom’s recipe
that’s in our cookbook. We experimented by
not adding any sugar. We replaced, instead of one cup
of white flour, we added oatmeal and wheat flour, and then we added
dark chocolate chunks. It’s amazing. Like you don’t even
need sugar in it. It tasted just
as sweet as can be, and there’s no sugar. It’s very yummy. Ah, you found a replacement
for the waffles. Blueberries. Do you guys like blueberries? On relaxed weekends, when we’re all trying
to get our chores done, the very last thing
that ever gets done is my bed. Because the kids
just come in here, and watch cartoons and movies,
and I don’t mind. I kind of like it. When I was growing up, my parents’ room
is more off limits, and so we did not do that very
often in my parents room. I can recall maybe once lying on their bed
and watching movies, and that’s when I was sick. But my kids do it all the time. Do you want to see what
my family room has looked like for several days? I sent– I’ve told you before that
I’m writing a book. I had 257 pages,
single spaced on Google Docs that I sent to my editor, and there’s still things
that are coming up as I’m watching her put
some organization to my writing, and kind of shift things around. It’s sparking ideas
like, oh, yeah, and I want to write this. Oh, yeah, and I
want to change that. And so, I’m just
sitting here writing, and I’m pulling out all the books that I have read
to prepare me to write this. So I’ve got books here,
writing over here. This isn’t even a portion of it. I’ve been reading lots
of books on parenting. Of course, I’ve always read
books on parenting ever since I– You know, 16 years ago
when I became a parent, but I’ve also been reading tons
of books on leadership, and power, and organization
within businesses and families. I’ve been reading
books on heroes, who have led
with a quiet, strong, power– Any book that I feel like will give insight
into empowering or leadership, I’m picking up, and I’m reading, like… I’ve got like books on audio that I’m
constantly listening to, and you know what? It has been so much fun. I just wish like maybe
I was earning some kind of like thesis to go
with all of this study and writing like… But that’s okay. I’ll have to go back, and and get
that another time. Like everything’s
backward for me, like get married,
start a family, write a book, have a career… And then I’ll go back to school. That is definitely something
I’m gonna do though. I just do things like
non-conventionally , I guess. You guys, look
what we found in the back. They were intended to be
for someone’s Valentine’s. Like two weeks ago. What– What in the world? Like, did someone not go
with to Valentine’s? You guys, it finally came. So my watch came like yesterday, and so we’re going to take it
to Verizon to get it set up, and then we’re gonna text Aunt Bonnie to see what
Olivia’s number is, so I can put on my top contacts. That is the birthday present that you bought
with your own money, but had your friend do
the shopping for. Yeah. And are you ready to tell
everyone what that secret was? Are you over it now,
and you can tell everyone? Yes. I just didn’t want to say it
in front of my teacher. Do you remember
the money that you, that you paid Eve? Oh, that. That. How many secrets do you have? Not too many. Okay, so tell
everyone what it was that you paid money to find out. Eve’s LOL Doll codes. Yes, and why is
that so embarrassing. All that drama
because Eve had LOL codes, and Julie wanted to know
what the codes were. Shari’s taking my bike! She just wanted to– Anyway, Julie wanted to have the codes
to this LOL doll that opened up into like little secret
compartments and treasures, and she was a little embarrassed that she paid money to find out
what the codes were. But, she’s got her watch, and we’re going to go
to the Verizon store, and figure out
how this all works. The tortoise is tired
of being slow. It’s a green one. What did you do Russell? What have you been doing? Here you go. That wasn’t me, it was Julie. Julie. Did you try to pull it off? What did you do? Did you try stealing a phone? No. Yeah, so because they came up with new Gizmos 2 the
are for that reason. We all have old technology. That’s an old Gizmo? Well, they’re just
the same 3G, 3G. That’s a 3G too? 3G device. Do they have 4G Gizmos? We just came out with new ones. Do you know
what kind Olivia has? No. Can you text her and ask? Okay. So what
we’re finding out– We all have old technology, except Shari and my parents. Is that– Well, listen. Don’t feel too bad for yourself, because Shari didn’t
get a smartphone– Until she was 13,
but they took it away and then– Because, because she
wasn’t ready. She got taken away because she was not being
responsible with it. She just got her first
cell phone or smartphone when she went to Italy
with Dad like six months ago. She was like 15 in a few months. Everybody my age has one. But I’m not everyone’s parent. I’m yours, and I’m Shari’s. Okay, so help me out here. Am I the only mom in the world who gets their kids
a flip phone? Did you say yes? Oh, no, sorry,
it’s not [inaudible]. I was like,
it’s for the phone. Change your answer. I don’t know about that. Am I though honestly, the only one who does
a flip phone for their kids? No. I actually think
it’s a good idea. They [inaudible]. The comments are [inaudible].
>>There’s a certain age for– Yeah, the comments would all
be coming from teenage kids too. That all have smartphones. I get where you guys
are coming from. I do.>>But–
>>She don’t care. But I do care,
and I care about your feelings, but you also have to understand
that I’m coming from a place where I see more,
and I am your parent, and I just– I’m doing the best I can. That’s the way it is. Do you have kids? I don’t. I have a little bunch of
three younger brothers though. Yeah. They all smartphones? The littlest ones turned 17, he got his first
smartphone last year. You see? You look like a cool guy. You look like
you’re cool brothers. They– He was 17. 16. He was 16. It’s like all the things
that I want you to be doing that you won’t be doing
if you have a smartphone. Like I want you to be reading
before you go to bed. I want you to be creative. I want you to– The only reason Shari got
a smartphone when she did, because she was running
her own channel, and she needed her phone
to check stats, and to collaborate with businesses who were calling
her and contacting her. It was like literally
part of her job. So anyway, just throwing
that out there. I do love you, and I do care about you, and I understand your feelings. I’m just not giving in to him. One more update. They– bad news is Julie’s
Gizmo watch is not compatible. The good news is they have
4G watches available. The bad news is they sold
the last one this morning. So we’ll have to come
back in next week when they get a restock. No one has ever waited so long
for a number as Julie, and she’s been so patient, and put on her own sweat
and money for this, haven’t you? I got my phone like last year. She gets your phone
when she’s what? Nine. Ten. And how many words
of complaint have you heard from Julie’s mouth?
>>Signature here. Mine or hers? Hers. That was a very long visit. We got a lot
of stuff figured out. We’re leaving disappointed, but we’ll come back when they
have a little more inventory, and you know what? For such a hard afternoon,
and some big disappointment, what are we gonna do? Get a cookie. We’re gonna get a cookie. [inaudible] want to see. I’ve always wanted to do this. [inaudible] this. Did it satisfy
like you thought it would? Very much. But yeah, I got this thing,
it’s literally this, but it’s faster so… Yay. Guys, I got a new phone. Oh my gosh! Isn’t this crazy?
