Smartphone Gimbal Shootout – Osmo Mobile 2 vs Movi Cinema Robot vs Zhiyun Smooth 4

Smartphone Gimbal Shootout – Osmo Mobile 2 vs Movi Cinema Robot vs Zhiyun Smooth 4

– Today I’m comparing
six smartphone gimbals to see which one is the
smoothest and performs the best. (upbeat music) So I have six different gimbals. All of these are a little bit different and all of ’em give you
some different features, but I really wanna see which on is the most usable and which
on is actually good. I’m here with my buddy Jesse. He’s behind camera right now. He’s gonna be doing some photography and we’re with Sole, a dancer, and she’s gonna be doing some cool stuff to give us a real world setting to try these different gimbals out in. – He guys, my name is Sole Basaldua. I’m a singer and dancer and today we’re gonna be shooting some
stuff at (speaking faintly). So I hope you enjoy it. Make sure you follow me on Sole.Basaldua. It’s B-A-S-A-L-D-U-A in
Instagram or on YouTube. Love you. – I’m not just gonna like
run around and shoot rocks because that’s kind of boring so, doing a real world kind of video shoot, testing these gimbals and really showing you which on is the best. And one last thing, I’m giving
away all of these gimbals so if you wanna win one of these gimbals make sure you go down in the
description and check it out. I’ll put the link down there. (upbeat music) So we’re gonna review
this footage together? The first one we’re working
with is the Zhiyun Smooth 4. Now originally when I did my
first smartphone gimbal review, I actually didn’t really like this gimbal but I’m wanting to give it a second chance because this gimbal has been updated. The focus and zoom control
works a little bit better and also it now works with Filmic Pro. So I know this is a solution that a lot of you are interested in, especially those of
you who use Filmic Pro. Now the big feature of this one is this focus zoom control
that you have on the side. It allows you to do some
cool smooth zooming. It’s not very jarring when you use it. It’s actually a pleasure to use because when you’re
zooming you can feather it in and out and make
it a smooth transition. Also you have a lot of
buttons on the front. You have access to like, your menu, you have access to a jog
wheel, some other functions. You also have your modes
right here on the front and then you have the trigger which makes it really easy to move the gimbal and change the settings as
you’re actually filming. Si in terms of shooting with it I thought that it was a
pleasure to work with. It seemed like it was
getting smooth footage. Now looking at this footage you can see that there is a little bit of movement up and down with the camera. It’s not perfect, it’s
not super silky smooth, and it’s really noticeable when you start going at a faster pace. So in this clip here I am running and you can see how much it moves and how it doesn’t keep
your footage that smooth when it comes to actually running footage. Now in terms of object tracking it doesn’t do a very good
job of object tracking, so overall this gimbal is okay. I wouldn’t say it’s the
best gimbal out there, but I wouldn’t say it’s
the worst gimbal out there. So I’m gonna give each of these gimbals a rating of one to three in
a few different categories and we’re gonna tally it up at the end and I’m gonna tell you which one that I think is the best gimbal out
of the six that I have here. And the first thing that we’re gonna talk about is the
smoothness because that is probably the most
important aspect of a gimbal. So smoothness on this one,
I would give it a two. Usability I would give it a three. It works very well. It’s very easy to use. The software works great and like I said, it works with Filmic Pro so that’s always an added bonus
with a gimbal like this. Software features, I would
say I’d give it a three. Again, it’s got a lot
of good features in it. You can do time lapses,
all that good stuff. Tracking I would give it a one. I wouldn’t use tracking on this gimbal. I just, every time I’ve
tried working with it I just haven’t had very much success. Size and portability I would definitely give it more on a one. This is a bigger gimbal. So, it’s not a super small gimbal. You’ll see some of the
other ones later on in this. They are a lot smaller. And overall score if I like it, well this gimbal was alright. I did enjoy using it. I think that in terms
of shooting and shooting with the model in this real world setting I actually enjoyed using this one a lot. But like I said after
looking at this footage, it’s not as smooth as I would like it. So this is gonna be a two. Alright, so the Zhiyun
ended with a score of 12. Okay, so the next one we
have is the Snoppa ATOM. This is probably the most unique gimbal in terms of its size ’cause it folds up. This could easily go in your pocket. It’s the only gimbal that I’ve come across that has this foldable
ability to really fold down and also it has an interesting
like curve design to it so that your gimbal arm is
completely out of the way. Also with this, you can
put on lenses no problem. So if you’re using external lenses, you could put ’em on here and
you have no problem shooting. It holds a ton of weight so, this is a good unique gimbal for that. Now this one also has a trigger which allows you to lock as you’re
running around filming, and also a joystick which
the Zhiyun does not have and then it does have like
all the other features. It has time lapses, tracking,
all that good stuff. Now, overall when looking at this footage you could see that there is times where it’s super smooth and then there’s time where it’s
a little bit jittery, and personally when I’m
working with this gimbal, I did have a few issues trying
to get it up and running. It works when it’s working but sometimes it kinda freaks out so I don’t know if it’s just because this
is an early model of this. This was a kick starter that I got early to check out and play with and I do have a full review of this
gimbal so you can see more about the specifics of this gimbal. I’ll put a link in the description so you can check that out. It’s definitely awesome because it’s cheap and it’s so small. So if you’re looking for
a super portable gimbal, this is kind of the one
that I would say go for. Now in terms of tracking, there’s kind of two ways
you’re gonna talk about this. This gimbals’s made so that
you can flip the camera around, shoot vertical, shoot horizontal. You can do both and it
works really easily. So if you’re shooting
a lot of vertical video for like Instagram or Snapchat, then this is a gimbal
that works well for that because it’s super easy
to switch in and out of that vertical mode and with that, it has face tracking which keeps your face in the center the entire
time when you’re shooting at yourself and that mode works amazing. Now when it comes to object tracking, it doesn’t really work at all. So when you flip the camera and you’re looking at objects in the distance, it doesn’t really track ’em that well. So depending on what it
is that you’re shooting, if you’re shooting social media content where you’re facing yourself, this is an interesting option because it always keeps your face centered. And then it has this
weird like beautify effect that like smooths out your skin. I would never use it but you never know. Maybe there’s people out there
that are interested in that. So this one is good for size and it’s good for like social media content. It was okay working with, not my favorite but not the worst either. Alright so for the scores on this, for smoothness I’d give a two because it’s sometimes smooth,
sometimes not very smooth. For usability I would give it a two. It works pretty well but definitely when shooting with model it
wasn’t as usable as the Zhiyun or some of the other ones that we were working with later in this review. Software features, I think
it’s got a bunch of features and it’s got some really cool stuff for social media content so
I’m gonna give it a three. Tracking, I’m gonna give it a two. Size and portability,
that is definitely a three because this is the easiest and
the best to move around with and overall score if I liked it, I’m gonna give this one a two. I do enjoy working with it but personally, I would’ve chose a
different one to work with when I’m going out there and shooting. So the ATOM gets a score of a 14. So the next one that we’re
going to is the Moza Mini-MI. Now this one is annoying for the fact that you can’t really
fold it up nice and snug. The arm never can like tuck in. So either you have it
kinda kicked out like this, or you have to put it
in the case like this. So this one is, in terms
of like its design, I think they definitely missed
something important here about keeping it nice and tight. Now this one has some
interesting features. It’s got wireless charging built into it and it also holds more weight so you could put lenses on it
and all that good stuff. It’s got the time lapses. Now, before we get into more
details about this gimbal, when watching the
footage it’s really shaky and it just doesn’t look that good. I’m gonna just stop right here and this one’s gonna probably be
the lowest on the totem pole, one of the lowest because
the most important thing about a gimbal is
if you get smooth footage. Now, when I’m watching this
footage it’s all over the place. And so like, you could have
all the features packed into a gimbal that make it amazing but if it doesn’t get you smooth footage or somewhat decently smooth footage that you can stabilize
a little bit in post, then what’s the point
of even working with it? So, I’m gonna stop there and this one’s gonna be number six out of six even though I haven’t reviewed the other ones. Alright, so let’s go on to the DJI. This has been one of my
favorites for awhile. However, I feel like it’s
starting to get a little dated. The software works, everything
works on this quite well but there’s just not as many features as some of these other ones, and I don’t know we’ll see how it compares with footage wise but. Now looking at the footage, you can see that the footage is smooth. This gets good footage, it’s
smooth, it’s a DJI product. They make good products, they
make good smooth products from there’s drones and everything else. So this is a solid choice but like I said, it’s a basic gimbal and
you’re not gonna get a bunch of bells and whistles. Also you’re not gonna be able
to put on lenses with it. However, this one does
work with Filmic Pro. So, if you’re a Filmic Pro user, you’re gonna want to get the
DJI or the Zhiyun Smooth 4. Both are good options that work with Filmic Pro and out of all the gimbals there’s are the only two that
work natively with that app. Now another thing is that the tracking does work very well on this. So, I do like working with this gimbal. It’s a pleasure to work with. It’s easy, it’s smooth. However, it doesn’t have a trigger and now after working with the other
ones that do have a trigger, I think that that’s a major
flaw that I wish this one had. The trigger allows you to basically be like filming in a direction. You can pull it, you
could stop the gimbal, we’ll stop moving the gimbal
so that you can readjust but hold your shot which is very good when you’re working in a
setting with like a dancer or with someone performing, because you got to move around, you’re gonna be jumping over
rocks doing different things. I was all over the place
with these gimbals, and having that ability
to kinda start and stop the movements of the gimbal based on a trigger was very helpful. So this one does not have it. So I’d say for smoothness
this one gets a three. I didn’t see a whole lot
of like jittery up and down or any of that so I would
say this is a three for sure. Usability I would say it’s a two. In the DJI app I would give it a two but because it works with Filmic Pro, and I know some of you like using that, I’m gonna have to give it a
three for that one as well. Now in terms of tracking the tracking does work great on this one. It works as it’s supposed to
so I’m gonna give it a three. Size and portability,
it’s definitely smaller. It definitely folds up nicely and it comes with a base built into it
and you can take this off. So this makes it really easy to just set your gimbal down wherever you’re going. So I’m gonna give it a three. And overall score if I liked it, I would say it’s about a two. I like this gimbal but like
I said there are some other ones that are better out there. This is a great option. It’s solid, it will work,
it gets you smooth footage, but I do like some of the
features of the other ones. So the DJI got a 16 and which is now a leader of all these gimbals. Alright guys the next one
is one of my favorites and this is the Freevision VILTA. Now this gimbal is great to
work with because of its grip. It’s got a rubber grip, it’s a
pleasure to put in your hand, like it just feels good. The other one’s feel very plasticy, whereas this one feels like it’s, you can work with this and
actually make some good content. This one I like a lot because
of the trigger on the back. Think of the DJI gimbal but with this added trigger on the back. So that’s kind of a added bonus so you can be more flexible, move around and get good
shots with this one. Now unfortunately when
it comes to this gimbal, it’s not as stable as the DJI. So, when you’re comparing
’em side by side, definitely the DJI wins in terms
of stability over this one. Which is unfortunate because this one is so good to work with. It just feels so good and natural and like the movements just work
because it’s small. The handle works really good. I also like the way that everything is laid out in the app. It’s very clear, very easy
to find all the settings and make any changes to what
it is that you’re shooting. So I really like working with this gimbal, but it’s definitely not the smoothest, and you cannot put lenses on it. It’s not gonna be able to
hold your phone with a lens, and one reason why it
might be a little bit shaky with my phone is that I’m
working with the iPhone XS Max which is much bigger and heavier. So if you’re working with a smaller phone and not much weight, this gimbal might be a good option because I think it’s the weight issue that’s causing it to not be so stable. So in terms of scores I would have to give this a two for stability. It’s okay. It’s not the best but
it’s not the worst either. Usability, I’d give it a three. I really enjoy working with this one. Software features, I’m
gonna give it a two. The tracking works great. Every time I’ve used
it I haven’t had issues with the tracking so I’m
gonna give it a three. Size and portability it’s great. It works very well. I like the size so I’m
gonna give it a three. And overall score if I liked it, I really, like I said I really enjoy
working with this gimbal, but it’s not as smooth as
say some of the other ones so I’m gonna give it a three because I enjoyed the process of
working with the gimbal but the smoothness is the one thing that obviously is the most important when it comes to a gimbal. So the VILTA also got a 16 so it’s right up there with the DJI. So it’s very comparable and
when I did my previous review, I ended up on the same conclusion that these two were very similar gimbals. I really like both of these. Alright, so now we are on the Movi Robot. This thing is such a different design than some of the other gimbals. Like you can lay it flat
and it just sits there which allows you to do some really cool like time lapse features
but obviously right now we’re testing how smooth it is. And I’ve got this, it’s got roll on it which is kind of fun to play with so we can roll the footage. Let’s just go for a little walk. Let’s check this out. (waves crashing) Now I’m super impressed with the footage that I got out of this gimbal. It is very smooth and you can see especially when I’m running, I was hauling it with Jesse. Watch out for a rock. (waves crashing) Whoa (laughs)! (waves crashing) And the footage itself is
like really super smooth for being a gimbal that’s
being knocked around. Now one of the cool things about the Movi is that they do have this added weight kit that makes it so that you can work with any phone and any added lenses on it but it basically allows you to add a bunch of counter weight to be able
to make it always balanced and this is a really cool feature. It’s the only one out of the entire group that has counterweights
made for the gimbal itself. You don’t have to buy some
third party counterweights. This one’s made because
they know that creators want to put on these extra lenses and create some really cool content. So I thought that was a really awesome feature of this gimbal. Also the app itself is
different then all the others. I enjoy working with the Movi for sure. Now it doesn’t have complete
manual control over everything, however you do have this
ability to lock your exposure and then boost your exposure
or bring down your exposure, but you don’t know exactly
what you’re changing with it. You don’t know if you’re changing your ISO or your shutter and so that’s one thing that I couldn’t find within the settings, where to change my ISO and my shutter. So that was kind of interesting but it’s more of a general
just exposure up and down. Other than that the app itself was very easy to use and the trigger and the buttons on the
back make it really usable. I enjoyed filming with this one a lot and I ended up filming the most footage out of all the gimbals from this day because I just enjoyed working with it. I enjoyed creating
content with this gimbal and like I said when I was doing things like running and I could
get awesome smooth footage. And that’s probably the
most important part. Do you enjoy working with a gimbal and does it get smooth footage? And this one has both of those. This gimbal also has a
lot of added features within the Ninja mode
which is really cool. So it’s got just some really
cool things to play with. – Yeah (laughs)! – Overall I enjoyed this one a lot. So let’s see the score of this one. On smoothness I would give it a three. This gimbals’s smooth. It gets great footage. Usability I would give it a three. I enjoyed working with this. It’s very awesome to work with. Software features I would give it a three. It’s got a lot of good features, a lot of cool things that the
other ones don’t have in it, however it does lack a
few things here and there but I still am gonna give it a three. Now tracking, there is no tracking built into this gimbal so I
have to give it a one. They say that they’re gonna do an update with the tracking feature
and obviously they want to make sure it’s good
before they release it, so I applaud them for
that for not releasing a feature that’s bad but also it’s not something that you have
access to with this gimbal. Now for size and portability this one’s not fit in your pocket but it’s also is super small and you kind of put it with the rest of your gear in your bag. So I’m gonna give it a three. It’s not super tall which is great so it allows you to put it in
a lot of really good spots. I really like the design
and the size of this one. Now the overall score,
I’m gonna give it a three. I really enjoy working with this gimbal. This is definitely a gimbal that is aimed for creators and film makers and people that really want to make awesome content. So as you can see there
is a group of gimbals that you could choose from. This one gets a 16 based on the scale that I created however as a whole after working with all
of these side by side, I definitely would say
that the Movi is the gimbal that you’re gonna want to get if you’re deciding between all six. Now like I said there
are different features that are gonna cater to different people. If you want to use
Filmic Pro then obviously you’re gonna want to go for
the Smooth 4 or the DJI. However there is a ton of features packed into the Movi and I still think that it is the best gimbal out of all six. So as we go down the rating I would say Movi’s my number one choice. My number two choice is
the DJI or the Freevision. Both of them are good options. Both of ’em are similar size, both of them are similar flexibility, they get good footage. Number four would be the Snoppa ATOM just because of it’s
fact that it’s so small and it just is a different kind of design. It’s great for people who just want to take a gimbal with them
but not have a ton of gear. Number five unfortunately
is the Zhiyun Smooth 4. I want to like this gimbal. It’s made for creators
and film makers however, it does have some flaws
and it’s an okay gimbal. And then of course the worst one out of all these is the Moza MI. It’s just not a good gimbal. It’s not smooth, the app is
confusing, not a good choice. – That’s a wrap kids. – [Jesse] That’s a wrap. – I love you. – Alright guys, I hope

  1. I have the Snoppa and the DJI Osmo 2. I take the Snoppa on trips because it packs down so small. I thought it was funny that the GoPro shots were so smooth without any gimbal – even running! Great review as usual – thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi Javen which one would you recommend I am really confused between Osmo 2 and movi, for travelling videos and vloging please help ?

  3. Seems very biased towards the MOVI just like the handful of reviews it has out on youtube and other online retailers. It might actually a very good gimbal but for the price I would expect a more trusted review. You also did not mention anything about the smartphone type.

  4. I wanna buy a gimbal i am confuse between osmo 2 and zhiyun smooth 4, which is better ? About smoothness

  5. 10:02 you got to move around, jumping over rocks, doing different things, i was all over the place with this gimbals.
Moral – this gimbals is for what you discribe, i have the one you did't want to give another chance like the Zhiyun, but not everyone buy this for jumping :D.
Appreciated was funny to see your video, great review.

  6. I think you need a gimbal in your hands' bro. It's so distracting while you're explaining your hands keep on throwing here and there.

  7. This review is like comparing a Fiat Polski, a Renault Laguna, a Toyota Previa, a Ferrari GTO and a McLaren, Formula 1 race car. They are all cars and takes you to where you want to go. Without a price/features comparison a review is nothing just show off.

  8. I wish you included the original osmo mobile in this review.. i prefer it a lot more than the #2 mostly because of the grip and trigger.

  9. Name the products more in your videos. I find myself having to search what product you are talking about.

  10. You need to re-review the smooth 4… For the price and features not only the it's very good… I love it more than the DJI. The smooth 4 has 2 triggers at the back which you didn't mention at all, one of them is for on the go and work extremely well when running.

  11. Has anyone used the Vimble 2(AKA Smove)? How does it compare to the DJI Osmo Mobile 2? Can DJI work with GoPros?

  12. You are using an iPhone X? iPhone has some serious issues with gimbals because of the optical image stabilization, which can not be turned off. This explains why most gimbals have a lot of jitter. The Movi must have found a way to disable OIS.

  13. You should also reviewed the GoPro that was used without a gimbal since it looked the best out of all of them combined!!!!

  14. New subscriber here, i just want to ask from you, i am using samsung s10 plus now, out of this gimbals, which one is perferct for my phone, i am blogging about travels and yes i travel alot. im choosing between zhiyun smooth 4 or dji osmo 2. i am too much confuse.🥺🥺🥺 thank you for helping me decide in advance.

  15. I was in loop what gimbal to buy.I like Zhiyun smooth 4 but after 100 rewievs and after i heard that Zhiyun hawe isues when paring him vith Filmic Pro i dicede to buy DJI Osmo mobile 2 and hawe no reguret. On Zhiyun when you pair hem with filmic pro the Zoom wheel it's not working and Zhiyun app is full of negative coments from yuser's.DJI rules becouse they DJI Go App is flaveles, active tracing works great, motion lapse is great and what i like on DJI osmo mobile 2 is that the aplicacion hawe integrated post production filters, music, color grading.DJI is the best international gimbal.Sorry for my bad english spell.Greatings from Croatia,i'm yours BIG Fan!!! 🤘

  16. The Osmo 2 comes with a base? Mine sure didn’t! That base plate in your video usually is one to put it on demo in stores. The fact that you can attach a tripod under it is useful though.
Also got the Movi 2 days ago and really loving it more than the DJI. Sets up easier and faster, but the counterweight is more fiddly on first use compared to the Moment Universal Counterweight on the Osmo 2.

  17. GREAT video. I have the Smooth 4 but am already looking or something different after a few days. I'll have to check out how it looks using the phone's own camera app and OIS, but I'll probably move on because Zhiyun's response to their app crashing was for me to downgrade my phone. On the other hand, using the stock camera app would let me use hi-res stereo audio, or surround sound, or audio zoom which works amazing (HTC U12+).

  18. Hello bro! Which one should I buy “ Smooth 4” vs “ Dji Osmo 2” . I am very beginner, I have never been touch with gimbal . So I have a little confused 🤷‍♂️ that which one should I buy. Pls advice me bro .😊

  19. Would be great to use my Osmo mobile 2 if I could get it to charge like every single other person that bought one can't. Worst stupid setup ever

  20. ……….THANK YOU Jeven! …what are your top5 Gimbals today? …in terms of quality, smootheness, and Price?

  21. You can use lens' with the Osmo Mobile 2. I use the Moment Anamorphic with a counterweight. Works beautifully.

  22. Would you recommend the go pro hero 7 black with no gimbal or the movi with a Iphone xs max? Just trying to get your personal preference.

  23. Awesome review, what's your take on the best gimbal for the iPhone Xs Max with an anamorphic lens attached to it?

  24. Well, in Denmark the Movi is 3.5 times as expensive as the Smooth 4. So I think that it is not fair to compare them, without talking price…

  25. Heres 5 more smartphone gimbals that I tested: Let me know which one is your favorite!

  26. Nice review 😊. I have reviewed Funsnap Capture 2 gimbal in my channel. It offers all features available in DJI OSMO MOBILE 2 for only $80.

  27. Great review. Thank you. One thing that would be helpful would be to pop up the name of the item you are talking about when you intro each one. You talk pretty fast, and it was hard to understand what product you were talking about. BUT loved how you did this. I'm buying the Movi!

  28. i watched 2 time. i try to understand which gimbal is the best. because i want buy gimbal. thnk for good compare

  29. I have the Zhiyun and I must say it’s pretty smooth… maybe it updated since u made this video but the videos are really smooth

  30. i could suggest that you put the name of the gimbal at the upper conner, so each time you talk about one gimbal people will remember which brand you're talking about. I found myself have to go back a bit to check out the product that you were criticizing.

  31. The smooth 4 has been a great addition for me! I don't have a basis for comparison but I love having most of the controls for filmic pro directly on the gimbal. I've done some footage running up uneven steps at a state park – and the footage looked like a drone shot – smooth.

  32. I started with the original DJI Mobile and now have the MOVI. I use it with Filmic Pro and the Movi app, depending on what I'm shooting. I also use it in vertical mode for live event coverage and BTS on social media and the Movi is much more comfortable for those that use the vertical format.
