Supporting diversity and inclusion in AI with AI4ALL

TESS POSNER:
Currently today there is a diversity crisis in
artificial intelligence. So those that are building
and developing the technology are not representative of our
complex and diverse society. And so AI4ALL was
really developed to address this
diversity crisis, to support and foster the next
generation of diverse leaders in AI. And Ananya is an amazing young
woman and an amazing leader. She went through
our AI summer camp. And she was so passionate
about combining art with AI that she went on to found
something called CreAIte, which is her initiative to teach girls
from high school and middle school how to use
AI and art together. ANANYA KARTHIK: At
AI4ALL, I remember we all got these
t-shirts which said, like, AI will change the world. Who will change AI? And I think only after
attending the program I fully realized just how
immense the impact of AI we’re going to be,
and we’re already, on diverse fields in society. And I also like more
confidence in my potential to contribute to that impact. We thought presenting technology
through neural art, which was like a visual, hands-on
representation of how artistic AI is, would propel
like a multidisciplinary view of tech that was
rooted in creativity. And that is very
empowering for girls. One of my favorite
parts of these events is kind of meeting all
of these new girls who are eager to learn and to bring
their own unique perspectives and experiences to
the art they create and showcase in our neural
art exhibitions, which is just really exciting for me to see. And that’s the creative
thinking and diversity I believe that we need in
the future of technology.
